before
I used to throw away extra chicken and rice,
I used to make bad pasta and not eat it.
I used to take the bus and complain about how long the ride was,
I used to be impatient in the supermarket line,
I used to take fresh food for granted,
I used to look forward to Costa Rica,
I used to take summer camp as a given,
I used to have easter brunch with my grandparents,
I used to take joy in playing with my young neighbors,
I used to say hello to every dog I saw.
I bake without baking powder and granulated sugar
I substitute white flour for wheat,
If I need chocolate chips
I can’t go to the grocery store
Four months ago,
Actors stood on stages, singing and thousands watched, their eyes glued to the drama and the misery that only existed on stage.
Now, we only wish for the luxury to stand up and leave.
